The Aunt Beck May House was first built at the western edge of Mingo Swamp circa 1885. William and Rebecca May acquired it and dismantled and reconstructed it circa 1894 on 43 acres of land deeded to William May as payment for services in the Civil War. The last owners of record were Earl and Ruth Carver, who donated it to Evelyn May Wilson, the great-granddaughter of William and Rebecca May. She then donated the house to the Wayne County Historical Society to be reconstructed at the city of Piedmont. Dismantling began March 23, 1995, and was completed May 31, 1995. Earl Carver moved the logs to Piedmont on June 2, 1995. Members and supporters of the Wayne County Historical Society began reconstruction on June 3, 1995, and completed it in October 1995.
