THE STORY

Itta Bena was the plantation home site from which the town took its name and belonged to Brig. Gen. Benj. G. Humphreys, C.S.A. He was elected governor of Mississippi in Oct., 1865, and was forcibly removed by the Carpetbag regime in June, 1868.
