Spy Rock
Nature
Spy Rock is a pink granite dome in Mason County, Texas, south of Fredonia, rising 1,749 feet above sea level within the Llano Uplift. Part of the same central Texas granite landscape as Enchanted Rock, it is formed from middle Precambrian rock dated to about 1,082 ± 6 million years ago, linking it to a very ancient geologic formation. The public can reach the base of the peak, but the dome itself is on private property and may be visited only with the landowner’s permission. Federal and state law protect its archaeological, historic, and natural resources.
