Easton has long been an industrial, educational, and cultural center where mills along its three waterways, Lafayette College, and many arts and cultural venues have brought industrious and creative people together. Karl Stirner, an internationally respected sculptor and a pioneer of Easton’s arts community, worked tirelessly for more than 25 years mentoring young artists and drawing them to live and work in the city, helping lay the foundation for its arts community. Today, Easton’s strong and diverse creative economy helps shape the city’s future, and the Karl Stirner Arts Trail extends from the Delaware River through historic downtown and along Bushkill Creek, celebrating the community’s industrial past, the natural beauty of its waterways, and works of art by local, national, and international artists.
