The bell was inscribed "Henry Stuckstede B F Co. St. Louis, Mo. St John Baptist Linwood, Nebr 1901 Weight: 1,450 lbs." Father Francis Zalud of Abie, Nebraska, arranged for the organization of a new daughter parish, St. Mary's in nearby Linwood, Nebraska, and for the building of its church. He appointed a building committee of August Kletke, Mike Sorick, Frank Vitamvas, Jim Kays, and Frank Nichols, and they and other parishioners helped build the church and donated financially. Part of the church was constructed with native lumber donated by Frank and Leopold Juranek and cut from timber on their land. Bishop Thomas Bonacum dedicated the new church on September 8, 1901. When the Abie parish lost its resident pastor, St. Mary's was closed and its parish boundaries were added to those of Sts. Peter and Paul, Abie. The last Mass at St. Mary's was celebrated on January 26, 1969.
