In the Army of the Potomac's Sixth Corps, Second Division, the Second Brigade under Col. Lewis A. Grant, consisting of the 2d, 3d, 4th, and 6th Vermont Infantry, arrived about 5 p.m. on July 2 after a march of 33 miles from Manchester, Md. Later it moved to the left and at dark to the extreme left, with one regiment, the 5th Vermont, on picket. On July 3 the brigade advanced a short distance and took position with its right on the east slope of Round Top and its left on the Taneytown Road, where it remained until the close of the battle under no fire except that from artillery. Its casualties were 1 man wounded.
