Thomas T. Gore was the first settler in what is now Calhoun City. Born in 1776, he left S. Carolina in 1817 for Alabama and came to Mississippi in 1840. He was a pioneer, politician, patriot, and planter. He died October 20, 1855, and was buried on the old homesite one-half mile northwest.
