Founded in 1857, the MSU Museum is Michigan State University’s oldest museum and an interdisciplinary academic institution that supports research, teaching, exhibitions, and public programs on the East Lansing campus. As Michigan’s first Smithsonian Affiliate, it holds more than 1 million objects, artifacts, and specimens spanning cultural history, anthropology, folklife, natural science, and archaeology. Its archaeological collections are especially strong, with extensive Native American materials from Michigan and artifacts from early colonial fort sites and campus locations. Across three accessible floors, exhibitions range from natural environments and planetary data visualization to topics such as climate, quilting, Detroit techno, and Odawa arts and crafts.
