The Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty County is a state-run library, archives, and museum complex that preserves records and artifacts from the old Atascosito region of Southeast Texas. Operated by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, it provides government records, manuscripts, newspapers, maps, photographs, and other materials for historical and genealogical research. Established on land donated by Governor Price Daniel and Jean Daniel in 1973, it opened in 1977. Its museum interprets the region’s history through major industries and long-term human settlement, and its grounds include the Daniels’ home and several relocated historic buildings.
