On September 24, 1864, at the Battle of Sulphur Creek Trestle surrender site, Colonel Wallace Campbell, U.S.A., surrendered to General Nathan Bedford Forrest, C.S.A., an event later remembered as a triumph of Forrest, known as the "Wizard of the Saddle."
