The New Castle Range Rear Light stands on the Delaware River near New Castle, Delaware, as part of a navigational range built in 1876 to mark the main channel past Pea Patch Island and Bulkhead Shoal. Named for the nearby town, the original rear light was incorporated into a two-story frame dwelling on a one-acre site about half a mile from the front light. In 1953, that structure was replaced by a steel skeleton tower. The original house remained for several more decades, but after a fire in 1975 and ongoing deterioration, it was intentionally burned in 1982.
