Built in 1887, the barn was 148 feet long, 70 wide, and 40 feet high, and its construction required seven railroad cars of lumber. The original rafter ends under the eaves were shaped as gun stocks, and Annie Oakley’s trademark, the Ace of Hearts with a bullet hole in the middle, stood at the peak of the roof. It served as a horse barn that housed the stock needed for working the ranch. Another barn east of it was used for cattle; known as the “T” barn, it burned down in 1904.
