Georgia Veterans State Park on Lake Blackshear in south-central Georgia was established on December 4, 1946, as a memorial to U.S. veterans. Covering 1,308 acres along the shore of the 8,600-acre reservoir, it combines commemoration, military history, and recreation in one setting. Its museum is the central heritage feature, displaying aircraft, military vehicles, weapons, uniforms, and other memorabilia from American conflicts from the Revolutionary War to the present. At the same time, the park serves as a full-service public destination with lodging, campsites, a marina, beach, conference center, golf course, nature trail, and lake activities such as boating, fishing, hiking, birdwatching, and watersports.
