First Baptist Church of Dripping Springs was organized in June 1872 with 12 charter members and the Rev. G.G. Rucker as pastor. It helped form the Pedernales Baptist Association in 1873, and members including W.T. Chapman and A.L. Davis helped found Dripping Springs Academy in 1880. A sanctuary built in 1901 was dedicated in 1902. In 1978, under pastor Don Duval, a new sanctuary was built and was dedicated in January 1979, with much of the construction done by the men of the church and the Texas Baptist Men. In 1996, during the pastorate of David Smith, the sanctuary was enlarged and completely remodeled. On Sept. 5, 2007, fire destroyed both the historic church built in 1901 during the pastorate of Bro. H.T. Peal and the newly remodeled sanctuary. After meeting for a time in a local gym and then in the restored fellowship hall, the congregation dedicated its current sanctuary on Sept. 12, 2010, during the pastorate of Craig Curry.
