Fort Ninigret is a memorial of the Narragansett and Niantic Indians, honored as the unwavering friends and allies of our fathers, and it was erected by the State of Rhode Island in 1883 with Dwight R. Adams, Wm. P. Sheffield, and Geo. Carmichael Jr. as commissioners.
