John Boyle O'Reilly was a poet, patriot, and friend of freedom and humanity, an ardent lover of his native Ireland and devoted to his adopted land. He was born in Ireland on June 28, 1844, and died on this spot, his summer home, on August 10, 1890. A memorial was erected by the Massachusetts Chapter of The American Irish Historical Society on August 10, 1917.
