Monroe Township Memorial Park features a sculpture designed by Blaise Batko whose symbols reflect the events of September 11, 2001. Nine black granite panels signify the month of September and are carved to symbolize the New York City skyline. Black walkways symbolize the date of eleven and also represent the shadows of the missing World Trade Center buildings in that skyline. A white sidewalk is shaped like the Pentagon. Two flagpoles represent the United States as a strong nation that rose from the tragedy and remains indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Two Monroe Township residents were lost at the Twin Towers site: Vincent Gallucci, survived by his wife Barbara and his children Joe and Alyssa, and Joseph M. Giaccone, survived by his wife Sondra and his children Alex and Max. On September 11, 2001, the lives of Monroe Township families changed forever as Margaret Fallon lost her son William Fallon; Jay and Mrs. Harris lost their son Stewart D. Harris; Sherman and Mrs. Lillianthal lost their son Steve B. Lillianthal; Dorothy Rothenberg lost her son Mark D. Rothenberg; Donald and Mrs. Weiner lost their son Jeffrey D. Weiner; Susan Cohen lost her brother John G. Chipura; Donald Palisay lost his brother Sal Fiumefreddo; and James K. Samuel, Jr. was the son of James K. Samuel, Sr. The park was dedicated on September 14, 2002.
