The Treaty of Cahuenga was made here by General Andres Pico, commanding forces for Mexico, and Lieutenant Colonel J.C. Fremont of the U.S. Army for the United States. Agreed upon January 13th, 1847, it brought the United States acquisition of California, which was finally secured by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, made February 2nd, 1848.
