Tri - Hi - Y International was organized at Douglas High School on this site in 1930. Its founder was Dr. Jesse Lee Fortney, superintendent of Douglas Public Schools. The faculty sponsor was Miss Agnes McNair, and the adult advisors were Misses Kate Outen and Mary Stanford and Mesdames L.E. Heath and F.M. Chalker. The charter members were Eleanor Bailey, Sula Nahara, Azalee Taylor, Dorothy Barrett, Christine O'Farrell, Willie Mae Taylor, Elizabeth Brown, Marie O'Farrell, Anna Belle Thompson, Annie Frances Clower, Kathryn Outen, Ruby Thompson, Kathryn Coble, Rosemary Peterson, Miriam Touchron, Laverne Lewis, Jackie Preston, Lucille Vickers, Helen Mingledorff, Mable Claire Strickland, Mary Frances Wallace, and Rose Tanner.
