The Christian Church of Perryopolis began in 1874-1875 through the itinerant preaching of Rev. Benedict. Baptism services were conducted in the Youghiogheny River near Layton, and services were held in the public school building until the school board refused use of the building. This building was dedicated on May 9, 1886.
