The Museum of Deaf History, Arts and Culture in Olathe, Kansas, preserves and shares the history and culture of Deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States. Closely connected to the nearby Kansas School for the Deaf, it grew from a collection built over more than forty years by teacher William J. Marra and dedicated at the school in 1986. Efforts to create a broader Deaf cultural center took shape in the late 1980s, leading to a new building that opened in 2001. The institution later expanded Marra’s collection into a larger museum and cultural center focused on education, outreach, arts, and preservation.
