In late November 1992, the Big Bright Light Show debuted for the holiday season, turning downtown Rochester into a rainbow wonderland as buildings along Main Street were blanketed in multi-colored lights, and it became an annual event that continues to draw thousands of people each year. In late May 1977, Rochester held its first annual Heritage Festival to celebrate the community's history, traditions, and culture, and it has continued with events such as Civil War re-enactments, musical entertainment, old-fashioned children's games and activities, antique car shows, and many craft and food vendors. In December 1952, Rochester's first Hometown Christmas Parade was held, and it has continued annually with floats, school bands, fire engines, and Santa Claus on his sleigh as a grand finale, drawing thousands of people and involving many local businesses, organizations, and schools.
