In 1942, fifteen Long Beach mothers began meeting weekly to pray for their sons and daughters serving in the Armed Forces. Organized into the Long Beach War Memorial Association in 1945, they began raising money for a memorial, bought this site in 1950 for $2,750, and developed it into a park. Landscaping, playground equipment, and a memorial shaft were added in 1951. In 1952, the park was deeded to the city as a memorial to the 10 young men who gave their lives in service to their country during World War II. In 1996, the Long Beach Rotary Club adopted the park and began extensive renovation, and in 1998 Eddy Blake VFW Post 3937 erected a flag pole.
