On March 4, 1905, William H. Wilcox and his family moved to Syracuse with all their possessions in an old iron-tired wagon and unloaded them into their first home, a one-room log house built by a Farmington pioneer and later moved to Syracuse. According to William H. Wilcox's diary, their furniture included a new bedstead and dresser, while a cupboard, table, chairs, and kitchen stove were hand-me-downs from their parents, and despite these humble and unpretentious circumstances they were very happy. William and Emily Wilcox had 10 children, eight boys and two girls, and two of the children were born in the little log home. William's father, James Henry Wilcox, deeded the home to him along with the 160-acre farm he had purchased from Christopher Layton on May 20, 1885, for $1,800. William and Emily lived in the little log home until 1911. Other Syracuse families who lived in the log home included an Argyle family, the Will Thurgood family from 1901 to 1902, and the James Barber family from 1902 to 1905.
