Peacock Beach State Park is a public recreation area on Pleasant Pond in Richmond, Maine, about 12 miles south of Augusta on U.S. Route 201. Centered on a beach and day-use area for swimming and picnicking, it has been managed locally by the Town of Richmond since 2010, despite remaining identified as a state park. That year, the state declined to open it as a cost-saving measure after spending about $23,000 annually to operate an often unstaffed site where many visitors did not pay entrance fees. Richmond accepted a 25-year lease on June 3, 2010, and has continued operating and maintaining the park with part-time employees.
