The council of the first Territorial Legislature of Wyoming convened at this site, and that legislature enacted the first woman suffrage law passed in the United States. The law was approved by John Allen Campbell, the first Governor of Wyoming, on December 10, 1869. The site was later associated with the 150th anniversary of the first women's suffrage bill signed into law on December 10, 1869, and with the restoration of the 1917 tablet by the Cheyenne chapter, NSDAR, on December 10, 2019.
