Old Glory is presented as the star-spangled banner, born of America’s love of liberty and honor and serving as a memorial for countless heroes who shed their blood to preserve that heritage. It is identified with the spirit of Valley Forge, sacrifice, and courage, and with the defense of freedom at places including Tripoli, Belleau Wood, Argonne Forest, Omaha Beach, Anzio, Bastogne, Guadalcanal, Coral Sea, Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, Korea, and Viet Nam. It flies wherever Americans gave their lives to preserve the sanctity of life and symbolizes God, Country, Freedom, and Valor. In memory of those from Yadkin County who made the supreme sacrifice, it records the county’s dead from the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War, including several listed as missing in action.
