From 1901 to 1996, thousands of men and women, both military and civilian, served at the Charleston Naval Base and in Charleston-based ships, submarines, and other military units, honorably answering their country's call to duty during World Wars I and II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and the Cold War, alongside citizens of the local community connected to that service and sacrifice.
