History
2
The Maryland-Pennsylvania boundary line was surveyed and marked from 1763 to 1768 by two English astronomers, Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon. This stone is one of the "Crown" stones, set every five miles and displaying the coat of arms of Lord Baltimore on the south side and Penns on the north side. Intermediate miles were marked by stones with M facing Maryland and P facing Pennsylvania. The stones were imported from England.
