Georgetown, Maryland

Georgetown, Maryland, was erected by act of Assembly of Maryland in May 1736 on a tract called Tolchester. From 1775 to 1783 it served as a base of Continental supplies and was also a Port of Entry and ferry landing. George Washington stopped here enroute to points north and south. The British burned it on May 6, 1813.
