A tribute honors the heroes who saved the nation in the War for the Union from 1861 to 1865 as a memorial unto all generations. It was erected by the people of Hazleton and vicinity on Sept. 25, A. D. 1885, and of Independence, 110, under the auspices of Robison Post No. 20, Grand Army of the Republic. The battles named are Gettysburg, Atlanta, Shiloh, Appomattox, Stone River, Antietam, Vicksburg, and Winchester.
