A public state park was created through the generosity of public-spirited citizens of Greene County who donated the land. The prehistoric Indian mound known as the Williamson Mound was thereby preserved, standing as a memorial to the donors and to the “first Ohioans” buried within. Recognition was given to David S. Williamson of Cedarville, Ohio, who donated 240 acres including the mound to the Ohio State Historical Society in Columbus, Ohio, and to the Home Building and Savings Co. of Xenia, Ohio, including its officers, shareholders, and depositors, which gave .48 of an acre.
