In October 1867, six track laborers employed by the Union Pacific Railway, Eastern Division, were massacred by a band of Cheyenne Indians while on duty about one mile west of here. They were R. S. Ashley, a foreman from Wisconsin; Thomas Carney of Iowa; Charles Watson of Canada; John Harrington of Kansas City; Pat Rafferty of Kansas City; and Hugh McDonaugh of Denver. This is their burial place.
