Spring Creek Prairie Audubon Center is an 850-acre tallgrass prairie preserve southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska, near Denton, established in 1998 to protect both native prairie habitat and evidence of overland migration. Known for its rich biodiversity, it supports 222 bird species, 30 mammals, 53 butterflies, 35 dragonflies and damselflies, and more than 370 plants. About three miles of trails cross the grassland, offering access to seasonal wildlife and one of the preserve’s most notable historic features: 19th-century wagon ruts from the Nebraska City–Fort Kearny Cutoff to the Oregon Trail. A green-designed education building opened in 2006, strengthening its conservation and learning mission.
