History
1
This cemetery has existed since at least 1856. Initially set aside as a burial ground for enslaved individuals, it continued in use by members of the Arrow Rock African American community after emancipation in 1865 and into the 21st century. A board of directors managed its upkeep and acquired additional property. Although a fire in the 1950s destroyed most records, research using the remaining records has identified burials here. Many people are interred in unmarked graves, and other markers have worn away, been misplaced, or been damaged.
