A Piedmont homestead originally settled by brothers James and Patrick Shields in 1798, this preserved 152-acre property contains one of Georgia's most diverse collections of farm buildings. Fifty-eight buildings and three structures stand on the property, including an 1866 homeplace, cotton gin, grist mill, mule barn, wheat house, warehouse, commissary, teacher's residence, and Bachelors’ Academy, a school for grades 1-7.
