Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area in Oregon’s Blue Mountains preserves a heavily used Oregon Trail campsite near the summit where emigrants paused while crossing northeastern Oregon in the mid-19th century. About 15 miles southeast of Pendleton, it connects that trail-era history with a modern state park that is open year-round. The site combines recreation and interpretation through a campground with hook-ups, rental cabins, summer re-creations of life on the trail in the 1850s, and an interpretive center devoted to the Oregon Trail. A nearby memorial to President Warren G. Harding’s 1923 visit adds a later historical association to this landscape of westward migration.
