At Connecticut Farms, a battle was fought on June 7, 1780, between American forces under General Maxwell and Colonel Dayton and the British army as it advanced toward Springfield. During their retreat, the British burned the Presbyterian Church and the village. On June 23, 1780, during a second advance, the British formed here into two columns and moved to Springfield, where they were repulsed.
