At Crysler’s Farm on November 11, 1813, British and Canadian forces under Lieutenant-Colonel Joseph W. Morrison decisively defeated a greatly superior enemy force. Those honored include Captain Thomas Nairne and Lieutenant Daniel Claus of the 49th Regiment, Lieutenant Charles de Lorimier of the Canadian Fencible Regiment, and the non-commissioned officers and men of the 49th, 39th, and Canadian Fencible Regiments and the Canadian Voltigeurs who were killed in action. More than eight hundred officers and men of the Royal Navy, the Royal Regiment of Artillery, the 49th Regiment of Foot, and the 89th Regiment of Foot are remembered for the victory, as are more than two hundred Canadian officers and men from the Canadian Fencible Regiment, Militia Artillery, Provincial Corps of Light Infantry, 1st Regiment Stormont Militia, 2nd Regiment Grenville Militia, 1st Regiment Leeds Militia, and the Indian Department of Upper Canada who took part in the action. Also remembered are the officers and men of the Upper Canada Militia who fought in defense of the St. Lawrence frontier from 1812 to 1814, including the 1st and 2nd Regiments of Glengarry Militia, the 1st Regiment of Stormont Militia, the 1st Regiment of Dundas Militia, the 1st and 2nd Regiments of Grenville Militia, the 1st and 2nd Regiments of Leeds Militia, and the Indian Department of Upper Canada, in engagements at Salmon River, Ogdenburg, Hoople’s Creek, Crysler’s Farm, Toussaint’s Island, Prescott, Brockville, and Gananoque.
