Near this site stood the first cabin built for Hon. Joseph Crawford in 1835. Born in Pa. in 1811, he served as Deputy County Surveyor of North Western Ill. from 1836 to 1841, was a State Representative from 1849 to 1854, became President of Lee County National Bank in 1865, and was Mayor of Dixon Ill. from 1873 to 1875. He died at Dixon Ill. Aug. 11, 1891.
