Captain Samuel Allen organized and led a regiment of Volunteer Minute Men on the New Jersey coast during the Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783. At this spot, Allen executed six Tories and their chief. The monument was erected by Allen’s descendants, and the tablet was placed by the Governor William Livingston Chapter DAR in 1927.
