Proffitt Cemetery is the burial place of veterans and others remembered there, including James Herod Blanton of the C.S.A. from the Civil War; veterans of World War I and World War II including members of the Bellomy, Bradshaw, Cagle, Denton, Heard, Holbert, Perry, Weatherbee, Wilkinson, Creel, Davis, Dixon, Gilmore, Jungman, Leary, Loftis, Reeves, Walraven, Wells, Kee, Morgan, and Wooldridge families; and Michael Wesley Wooldridge of Vietnam. It also contains one grave for three young cowboys killed by Indians on July 17, 1867: Rice Carlton, Reuben Johnson, and Patrick Euell Proffitt.
