Centennial Cone is an 8,649-foot mountain in Jefferson County, Colorado, and the namesake of nearby Centennial Cone Park, whose 12-mile trail supports hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and expansive scenery. Originally called Sheep Mountain, it was renamed after the Colorado Mountain Club petitioned the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, with official approval granted on August 7, 1912. The mountain also has notable geologic features, including pegmatite deposits with biotite granite gneiss, quartz-albite-muscovite, and quartz-microcline-muscovite. Its history includes a former beryllium mine, connecting the peak not only to outdoor recreation but also to a modest piece of local mining history.
