Loon Mountain Ski Resort in Lincoln, New Hampshire, developed from Sherman Adams’s vision after he returned to his home region and founded the Loon Mountain Corporation. The ski area opened in December 1966 with 12 trails, 80 acres, a gondola, and two double chairlifts, then expanded steadily with a hotel, additional advanced terrain, West Basin, North Peak, and eventually South Peak after a long environmental dispute. Ownership later passed through several companies before Boyne Resorts took control and then bought the resort outright. By 2022, Loon had grown to 73 trails and 13 chairlifts, with continued investment in snowmaking and lifts reinforcing its place as a major New Hampshire ski destination.
