Built in 1885 as the Lake Brantley Union Church because of its proximity to Lake Brantley, this chapel was designed by a Boston architect and originally served New England settlers as a place of worship. A devastating freeze in 1895 destroyed local citrus groves and forced those settlers to relocate, after which ownership passed to Rollins College. As Altamonte Springs grew, two pioneers bought the chapel from the college for $600, and in 1906 had it dismantled and moved by wagon, first to the site of the current main sanctuary and later to its present location. By 1955, it was holding year-round services. An example of Carpenter Gothic architecture, the chapel retains its original stained glass windows, wooden floors, pews, antique organ, and chapel bell, and it continues to serve as a community church used for worship, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other church events.
