Robert Johnson was born in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, in Copiah County on May 8, 1911. His recording career left an enormous legacy to American music, and the body of his work is considered the most powerful of its kind. His music struck a chord that continues to resonate, and his blues addressed generations he never knew while making poetry of his vision and fears, a haunting and lyrical portrait of the human spirit. He was known as the King of the Delta Blues Singers.
