The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum in Atlanta preserves the papers of President Jimmy Carter and extensive material on his administration and the lives of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter. Part of the federal presidential library system, it opened in 1986 on a Poncey–Highland site assembled for a highway project that was never built during Atlanta’s freeway revolts. Funded by private contributions, the complex includes major exhibit, archive, and storage space holding millions of documents, photographs, and objects. Its notable displays include Carter’s Nobel Peace Prize and a full-scale Oval Office replica. The site also served as a place of repose for Rosalynn Carter in 2023 and Jimmy Carter in 2024.
