From 1935 to 1942, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority established mobile health clinics to provide medical care to black people in the Delta. Dr. Dorothy Ferebee, a member of the sorority, directed the project. Primarily based in Mound Bayou, the summer program served over 15,000 residents before being discontinued due to World War II.
