Moores Creek National Battlefield is an 87-acre site preserving the Revolutionary War Battle of Moores Creek Bridge, fought on February 27, 1776, between loyalist and patriot colonists of North Carolina. The site includes the location of the bridge, the historic road used by the opposing forces on their way to battle, and reconstructed earthworks. Six monuments stand along the History Trail in connection with the battle, and the Tarheel Trail explains colonial production of tar and turpentine, known as naval stores, from the long-leaf pine.
