The Kimball Island Midden Archeological Site in central Florida lies near Astor in Ocala National Forest, across the Saint Johns River from the Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge in Volusia County. It is a midden, an archaeological deposit created by accumulated human activity, and is recognized for its historical importance. Its significance was formally acknowledged on December 11, 1979, when it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
